TAFETEL BOMB THREAT PROCEDURE
Purpose
It is the policy of TAFETEL to ensure that key staff are trained and made aware of how to deal with Bomb Threats and Evacuation Procedures.
Evacuation Plans and Emergency Procedures should be visible to both staff and visitors of TAFETEL, this ensures the optimum safety of all persons on the premises.
Procedure
Emergency Procedures at TAFETEL are centred on action initiated by the Office Supervisor or delegate.
During an Emergency - It is important to remember one vital point - STAY CALM.
By responding calmly in an Emergency Situation be it a Fire, Bomb Threat, Accident etc, injury or even death to a staff member or visitor could be prevented.
Please carefully follow the Procedures set out below:
IF YOU RECEIVE A BOMB THREAT
• Keep calm, sound calm
• Concentrate on the caller’s voice and background noise
• Do not hang up even when the phone call is completed
• Ask the caller the questions set out on the ‘Bomb Threat Checklist’ (can be downloaded at the end of this page)
• Special attention should be taken when recording the answers on the ‘Bomb Threat Checklist ‘
AFTER THE BOMB THREAT DO NOT HANG UP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES -
TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTION IMMEDIATELY
• Immediately ring Emergency on 000
• Speak clearly
• To avoid panic do not inform other people
• If the bomb threat is within normal office hours (9.00 am-5.00 pm) immediately notify the Office Supervisor or delegate
• If the bomb threat occurs outside normal office hours (5.00 pm-10.00 pm) contact Security
• The Office Supervisor or Delegate will take any further action as required
Responsibility
It is the responsibility of TAFETEL’s Office Supervisor to:
• Distribute Bomb Threat Procedures
• Implement Emergency Evacuation Procedures
• Stage trial Emergency Evacuations twice yearly
• Provide training on Emergency Evacuation Procedures to key staff in the TAFETEL Office
• Provide training for TAFETEL Office Staff likely to be recipients of telephoned bomb threats
• Record and report Bomb Threats and any action taken
Recommendations
It is recommended that a copy of the Bomb Threat and Emergency Evacuation procedures be distributed to all staff of TAFETEL.
• Evacuation Drills should be carried out twice a year
• Appropriate training should be made available to key personnel
• Copies of TAFETEL’s Evacuation Plan should be displayed in places clearly visible to all staff and visitors of TAFETEL
